There are a few yarn shops, but the one you absolutely can't miss is ArtFibers. It's right downtown, and looks a bit weird going in and upstairs, but you won't regret it. They sell yarns that are spun and dyed specially for the shop (they source lots of it from Japan, I think). I think they provide yarns for lots of industry designers and the big labels. But they definitely stock stuff you don't get anywhere else.

Oh, and layers. Layers, my friend, is the way to dress for SF.</description>
