I’m heading away for a week to Clare, without internet access, which is both a blessing and a curse. Good to get away from it for a while though.

dsc08482.JPG

I’ve cast on for the C-Lap, decided to go for it (Diane?? KAL??)

So far its going okay. May run out of stitchmarkers before I know it though so may have to resort to purling that stitch, I think I’m getting the hang of it at this stage. Sorry for the bad photos, just took them and the light isn’t the best.

dsc08483.JPG

meanwhile, I’m going to enjoy a cuppa tea in my new sheep mug

dsc08489.JPG

and admire the lovely glass candle holder that my Mum gave me. She gave me two, this one is sitting on a new shelf, one of a potential 4 that will be put up in the sitting room.

dsc08487.JPG

Isn’t it nice?

I was nicely surprised by the response to my previous post, looks like Im not the only one with raisen issues out there!!

So…see you next week, hope you all have a good one!!

The raisen of cereal

Filed under: General Ramblings — sweensie @ 8:00 am

dsc08467.JPG

I love cereal in the mornings for my breakfast.

I am one of those people who actually like the healthier cereals, porridge, wheetabix, shredded wheat etc etc.

I don’t love raisens, and a lot of cereals have raisens in them.

Don’t get me wrong, I love raisens by themselves, we used to get little boxes of raisens in our lunchboxes when we were kids, I like the plants that they come from- grapes, and I like whats made out of them also- wine.  MMmmmmm.

Just not in my cereal.

So, if Im eating a cereal that has raisens in it, I spend a few minutes meticulously picking them out.

I dont mind other stuff in there, like cranberries, or apple, and I love nuts in there…just NOT raisens.

dsc08469.JPG

What about you, how do you eat yours?

There were no raisens harmed in the making of this entry.

A friend of mine is Canadian, and lives in London. She is coming over to Dublin for a conference in November and will be extending her stay in order to stay with me, shop in Avoca, browse a few shops, and have a few drinkies.

Sherri was planning on going home to Canada before then and I thought, hmm, maybe I could get my grubby little hands on some yarn from one of the stores there….she said no problem, she would bring me whatever I asked, just to let her know where to get it and what I wanted.

Enter Diane, also Canadian, and who was at the time, just about to head home for a visit. Diane knows Lettuce Knit quite well (it seems!!). Diane sent me lengthy emails on what yarn stores there are in Toronto, and what to expect from them.

After doing a little bit of pondering, I decided to try out some Handmaiden yarn, and some Socks that Rock if at all possible, thinking that maybe I will ask Sherri to bring me more if I like them. Diane very kindly said she would get a skein of each for me.

Diane went and returned from Canada, and I met up with her yesterday to force her to hand over the yarn, exchange yarn for hard cash. Mmmmm, it IS nice.

Diane also brought me the latest Knitscene, which I quite like.

I have had the Clapotis pattern on my mind for a long time now, well, since last week when I got the bus into town and almost froze in the cold, all I could think of was casting on for the C-Lap that evening when I got home! Anyway, I think it may just be possible to knit it in the Handmaiden yarn….anyone done it using one skein of Handmaiden Mini Maiden?? Its got 500m/100g and the C-lap requires 550m of Lorna’s Laces…. hmm…may have to try it at least…

Oh, what did I tell Sherri?

Nothing, she’s been to Canada and back before I realised!!

Modelling Lelah

Filed under: Knitting — sweensie @ 11:14 am

We called over to my sister and BIL yesterday to have a look at their shelves, as we are finally putting shelves into an alcove in the sitting room to house all the books and knicknacks that have accumulated over the years.

Can you believe that I still have boxes of unpacked books after almost 4 years in this house?

My sister was wearing Lelah!!

First time Ive actually seen it on her.  She had a cardigan over it, which looked well, but had no problem in taking it off for a photo or too….

I didnt realise that the top bit there was a little overturned, it doesnt normally look like that, but I didnt see it until I uploaded the pics.

Doesn’t it look great on her?

Relaxation

Filed under: Clare — sweensie @ 5:57 pm

Aah, the weekend

Its almost a distant memory.

Watching the same butterfly come back every day to the yellow daisys I brought down,

butterfly2.JPG

Going from flower to flower and doing a little butterfly dance, going around and around and around on each of them

Going to the beach every day, getting some sun (I know, SUN!) and actually swimming in the sea (only brave enough on one of the days, my better half managed it every day).  This is the Atlantic we are talking about folks!

And watching amazing sunsets every night. Truely, a great weekend.

I won’t talk about the wrestling with brambles as we cut back most of the laneway, or stepping on thorns, which you know, DO go through the bottom of crocs, getting many scratches on arms and legs before I finally gave in and changed into jeans, or the aching muscles that I still have, 3 days later….no, it was a lovely weekend all in all!

A challenge accepted and completed!

Filed under: Knitting, Ravelry — sweensie @ 9:40 pm

A few days ago, I got into conversation with Joni from Ravelry, after she commented on the pink booties I had made. I said they could be done easily in a couple of hours, and she said that sounded like a challenge. So we decided that we would log into Ravelry at the same time (she’s in USA) and cast on, and see who finished first.

That led to us starting up a KAL on ravelry, and before we knew it, we had 21 members signed up for it!!

dsc08287.JPG

After a serious mix up in the times between Ireland and the USA, especially seeing as there are different times within the USA itself, and we had someone from Sweden also in the group, I cast on at the original time I had planned, 6pm, which was an hour after some of the others.

It took a lot longer than I thought,  also; wrong yarn choice. I probably should have gone back to the Sirdar I used for the red booties I had made, I still had at least half a ball left of the red and a full ball of cream in the same cotton.

dsc08286.JPG

Think I made a mistake using this yarn, left over Sirdar Town and Country 4ply sock yarn, which seemed a lot thinner than 4ply! I knew it almost as soon as I started but of course I was being pigheaded and ploughed ahead! I knit a few more rows of the 9-20 as I wanted a deeper show, and then followed what Joni did and cast on several extra sts and knit the tie longer in order to just tie it.

I wasnt too happy with the way the first one turned out, so used the hated long tail cast on for the tie on the second bootie and it did turn out better.

dsc08290.JPG

In between doing the 2 booties, I wound on the yarn to start at the same starting point for the 2nd bootie as I wanted them to match. On the 2nd bootie, I also lost some time as I got to the point where I was to cast off for the centre point of the top of the bootie and realised that I hadnt done my decreases previously, so I had to frog back and redo that part :-(

dsc08289.JPG

Whew, glad they are done, and in total, including the frogging time, they took 3 hrs and 9 mins, without a break.

Quick nip to the loo, and then the seaming began…and finished, photographed, put up on Ravelry, and now blogged. All since 6pm, fiance sent out for many cups of tea in the process!

Thanks Joni, and everyone else, for joining me in this madness!! Think we may be doing another one soon….
