Friends had their first baby today. A boy.

:-D

Congratulations Fin and Eavan!

This is sitting waiting for them.  Can’t show the full thing as they occasionally read my blog.

Although, I’m sure that they have other things on their mind tonight ;-)

Bootees bootees bootees

dsc08212.JPG

You know, this pattern is so easy to do and so adaptable.
Have a look at the original pattern of Saartjes bootees (link to pdf) and saartje’s blog for further examples if you don’t believe me!

In fact, have a look here , here and here also. Cute, eh?
I still had some left over sock yarn from Lisa Souza in the What a Melon colourway so thought it would be nice for some girly baby shoes.
 dsc08214.JPG

I knit these up in one night, and sewed them up the next day. I did some i-cords for the ties instead of following the pattern to create a cross over tie and using buttons, after seeing yarnbirds (second “here” link above) pair on ravelry.
And guess what?
I still have enough yarn left to do another pair!

So far from the one skein I have made:
A pair of  broadripple socks
A pair of baby booties

And now a pair of baby shoes.
Thats pretty good going, isn’t it?

A Lazy Sunday day, yeah I know its now Wednesday!

Filed under: Sewing — sweensie @ 10:12 pm

I had a little bit of time to myself on Sunday and had great plans.
I was going to:
Sew
Cycle my new Be Eye See Why See Ellie up to see my Mammy and my Daddy
Sew some more
Drink Tea
Ponder Life
Cast on and start knitting another top, ….for myself
Drink more Tea

Instead, I:

Lounged around the place a bit

Thought about going for that bike ride
Cut out some felt and did some sewing
Tossed felt into bin after sewing disastor
Spent some time on the phone catching up with some friends
Texted my boy to see how the match was going (badly)
Decided on several different sewing projects I wanted to do
Got out all my material to use for the patterns I decided on.
Put back half of the material I had decided on.
Spent at least half an hour trying to find my ruler.
Texted my boy again, match still not going too well
Used my measuring tape and the side of a sturdy placemat to mark out material, in lieu of still absent ruler.
Cut out material
Made this:

Got excited

Made this:

dsc08219.JPG
And then it was 9pm and I had to have some food or else collapse!

Details:

1.  Artsy Clutch from Bend the Rules Sewing by Amy Karol of angry chicken Fame.

I sewed the elastic a little off centre by pure mistake, but then thought it would look really nice if I put the button off centre too…and I think it turned out just right.

2.  Simple Leather-handled Shoulder bag from Amy Butlers In Stitches.

I didn’t have any leather or anything like leather for the handles, so I made the handles from some fabric, by folding themselves in on themselves on either side, and sewing up along the edge. The fabric I used for this was slightly elasticated, and had lines in the pattern which made it quite easy to sew up straight hee hee.

I havent used either of them yet, but have plans, oh yes, plans.

One baby…simultaneously modelling the red booties and the Lisa Souza sock booties that I knit previously

dsc08147.JPG

They are both a little big on her at the moment  but sure she can grow into them, can’t she?

She’s a bit of a wriggler, couldn’t get a good picture!! Isn’t she lovely?

Overflowing yarn

Filed under: Yarn Love — sweensie @ 5:03 pm

Don’t you just love it when you go to a charity shop, see bins overflowing with yarn, and realise they have just been put out?

It doesn’t happen here too often, let me tell you.

When it does, you just have to take it home with you.

dsc07923.JPG

It looked like this was the result of someone’s much loved stash being put into the charity shop after (s)he passed away. there was even a half finished baby cardigan.

This lot was the best of it.  I went through it all, and there was a lot there that didn’t have any labels on them. I picked out what I thought wasn’t acrylic from the non labelled ones, and the rest that had labels on them saying they weren’t acrylic either.

I like this yarn, colour isn’t great on this I’m afraid, but its a moss green colour

dsc07930.JPG

and the blue skeins definately have enough in them to make a top for myself. There are even some rolled up by hand balls of this yarn, as if the owner had plans and was about to start on a project.

dsc07929.JPG

There was also a mass of bright pink and bright orange skeins, definately acrylic, and I decided that I wouldn’t be able to use them.

Went home and then thought that they would make really cool toys, went back the next day and someone else had been in, and gone home rubbing their hands in glee like I had the previous day.

Ah well, thats the way the cookie crumbles :-D

Not only the Moo cards, but the Moo stickers I also ordered.

dsc08204.JPG

I went a bit mad and put in all sorts of photos into the cards, but I like them, and they will get used.

Etsy shop update, along with Lelah

Filed under: Etsy, Knitting — sweensie @ 11:32 am

I’m currently updating My Etsy Shop, if anyone would like to go and have a look.

Let me know what you think, if nothing else!!

Its taking ages and ages, so keep on looking as there will be more going in there over the next couple of days.

I’m pleased to say that Lelah is finished, blocked, photographed, given to recipient (my sister Ruth) and a) fits b) she likes it and c) the colour is perfect.

dsc08115.JPG

I used the wisdom of  Ravelry and had a good look at what was being done with this pattern,

dsc08116.JPG

and made some decisons on what type of ribbon looked good with it also.

dsc08109.JPG

I like the effect of the textured ribbon by the silk/cotton blend yarn.

I knit a few more rounds of the lace pattern, as I didn’t want the top to be too short, and then when I finished the boo-bi part of it, I went to use Jen’s modifications to finish it off but, I don’t know whether it was the couple of glasses of wine that I had consumed (oh-oh, shouldn’t be knitting on an important top and drinking wine people!!) or that the lighting wasn’t too bright at the time, but I kept on getting a jagged edge on it.  So I wisely put it aside, and finished it off the next day, by casting off as normal and then sewing it up, over the elastic.

dsc08112.JPG

I had to make a few assumptions on sizing, as my sister didn’t know about it, and apart from me attacking her with a measuring tape one day a couple of months ago and managing to measure above her boo-bs, I winged it.  We differ in sizing so I had to use my bod as a template (ahem) and do a few mathematics.

I used Debbie Bliss Cathay, about 3.75 balls, and it is truely lovely yarn to knit with, although I think this pattern had a lot to do with it, very easy, very lovely and could easily do it again.

I also gave her the flip flop socks that I had made eons ago for her, and I was right in thinking that she would like them. She likes to wear flip flops or open toe sandles right up until its really too cold to wear them, so I thought these would help a little

The temptation became too much

Filed under: Etsy, Inspiration — sweensie @ 11:05 am

dsc08118.JPG

I gave in and had to do it.

Some time ago, I read on the blog of the person I was spoiling  for the knitters treat exchange way back when it was still going on, actually maybe after it was finished even, about the lovely yarn she had bought from middlearth knitter who has a great etsy shop and I knew I had to keep an eye on her yarn.

(phew, lots of linking there!)

Just in case.  You know how it is.

dsc08120.JPG

Unfortunately (for me) only one of these skeins is for me to fondle and love.

The other 2 are for someone else, but I can’t quite post about it yet as they don’t know that I’m sending them.

In fact, Cairi, from middlearth knitter, when she found out about the circumstances, actually put in the third skein especially for this person.  Talk about kind!!   Thanks Cairi!!

Here’s another look–>

These booties were made for walkin’

dsc07914.JPG

Lovely quick knit from Saartje’s blog in the Netherlands.

Aren’t they cute? There are a lot of really cute booties being made from this pattern out there in blogland.

dsc07917.JPG

Made using Sirdar Luxury Soft Cotton and 3.5mm needles.  It took about half a 50g ball of yarn I would say.
