Catching up

Filed under: General Ramblings, Knitting — sweensie @ 8:00 am

dsc07885.JPG

Although I thought I’d have loads of time last week to spend on catching up on blog reading, I found that I didn’t really have the concentration to do so for the periods of time needed to catch up on so many of them….my bloglines is up to 174 can you believe!! Some of these I havent really caught up with since I came back from Italy and you can understand how many posts have built up in each of them since then.

Occasionally I would make a valiant attempt to read through a few of them, only to come back the next day and find that they had posted again!!! (How dare they!) So I found that I was going to the blogs with the least posts to read, to not have too many posts to catch up on, but that didn’t take away the fact that I was still ignoring the ones with a lot of posts…I tried to bring down the amount of blogs that I read, but though I managed to cut it by a few, of course I find others through regular blogs that I get really excited about…

Oh well.

One of the things that I just found this morning actually, and really liked was from this great blog and the rules say that you should open up google and type in your name followed by likes to, in inverted comma’s, and press go.

So for example “Sara likes to”

Then you copy the first 10 things into your blog.

I did that, then had a look through the next few pages of google and copied the other ones that I liked the look of, just down to pure randomness of them, or because I liked the way they sounded.

Here they all are:

  1. Sara likes to do it getting around. “I enjoy riding with my kids to school - I know they’re travelling safely and I get fitter too!
  2. In her spare time Sara likes to SCUBA dive, sky dive, wakeboard, free-diving and catching lobster.
  3. Sara likes to play basketball
  4. Like V I, Sara likes to sing, in an amateur way, has a hopeless passion for the Cubs, loves Italian shoes—and is obsessed by the search for the perfect …
  5. Sara likes to work out with the engineer and the secretary. Who is the secretary? Answer:. You can use a process of elimination on this problem. …
  6. Sara likes to tell crazy stories about her family. Sara believes that kittens are made of pure fluff. Sara always looks like a stonefox! …
  7. Sara likes to beat other teams because she knows that she’s doing her best to score a goal. Sara is so happy about soccer and is confident that she will get …
  8. Away from school and work, Sara likes to watch movies and spend time with friends and family. After graduation, Sara hopes for a social work position …
  9. Sara likes to call every single one of these students, “her kids.” 34000 kids through college!
  10. Sara likes to sit on the very top edge.

The others:

  • Sara likes to read books and imagine things.
  • Sara likes to play with the hand whisk, and I’m wondering what she might have in stall for Minka……
  • Evil Princess Sara likes to tell people what to do! But what people do with her advice has nothing to do with her.
  • Sara likes to change up her looks for the show and sometimes she likes her hair to be straight except for a little bend on the ends. …
  • In their spare time, Sara likes to figure skate and skated competitively until junior high
  • Ted likes to cook; Sara likes to eat. Ted likes small bubbles in his mineral water; Sara likes small bubbles too.
  • Sara likes to knit, for to concerts, and pretends that she can tap dance. Once upon a time she really liked to act but she’s taking a little break from that …(See- Knitting gets in there somehow!!)
  • When she isn’t fighting crime and helping the blind see, Sara likes to spend time with her friends and family
  • Sara likes to look around and see all the new things that are around her.
  • Sara likes to be on location in the vineyard a half hour before sunrise.  (OOH, like this one!!)
  • Listening to Troy and Sara, it seems Troy is more content to get a good night’s sleep but Sara likes to party on after the gig
  • Sara likes to dip her food into water…so, why not a puddle? And, back at the house… Sara doesn’t look too amused, does she?

I do have  little bit of knitting to show here.  First up is the teacosy that I em, eh, oh, ah casts on for my sister for her birthday eh, last year (shh, dont tell anyone ).

Oh wow I can’t believe it took me so long to finish this!! Its so simple too. I didn’t really follow the pattern, just looked at the picture (which is very very badly placed in the book- who puts the main picture of the pattern you want to make in the middle of 2 pages so it runs along the spine??) and winged it from there. The book I used is Knit- handmade style.

I used two different yarns, can’t remember which they were but think one was Rowan cashsoft, does that contain angora? The other was a Donegal tweed blend, DK. Used 2 strands together and basically just knit until it was long enough to fit around the teacosy, with a little extra. I did knit a top to put over the top of the cosy but ended up leaving it off as it didn’t reaaly go with the look of it. I stranded a tie through the top of the cosy to pull it in together, and crocheted a single loop to put in between the handle to hold that area together with a button on the other side. So really it ended up nothing like the teacosy in the pattern! More photos to come, I forgot to take photos of the button area.

Whew, glad that weeks over with!

A week has passed since my surgery and day by day I have been feeling better.

I didn’t think it would take as much as it did out of me. I went from feeling 20 months pregnant and having to be pulled up off the couch to actually being able to get off it by myself.

Although for a large part of the time last week I felt in control of everything and with it, looking back, its been a little bit of a blur.

dsc07894.JPG

The week flew by though, and I got some sleep finally!! I can now sleep on my side, which is a bit of a relief, as I’ve ever been able to sleep on my back properly.

No lifting though for another 4 weeks or so, which is not such a bad thing, but I’m already feeling bad asking my boy to lift so many things for me.  I never realised how much stuff needs to be lifted!! And that doesn’t even include the cats, they haven’t been cuddled properly by me since the surgery.  My boy is trying to make up for it though. Reggie has been acting a little funny the last few days, I think I may be cramping his style being around all the time! He’ll have another week of it, as I’m off work this week also.

dsc07896.JPG

Thanks to everyone who have commented and emailed since last week.  It was lovely to get so many well wishes from everyone.  I know that I haven’t gotten back to all of you, but I will be remedying that in the next few days! I’m trying to get back into the swing of things slowly.

Aren’t the flowers lovely?  They smell divine. They are from my work, who have been more than accommodating with me, even telling me to take another week if I need it as there is no point in coming back if I don’t feel up to it.  So nice.

There has been a little bit of knitting…and of sewing…and many (sometimes drug enhanced) plans for stocking up of  My Etsy Shop.

More to come!!.

On the inside looking out

Just had my gallbladder out.

Stomach bloated…feel like I’m about 6 months preggers.

Pain relief pretty good, but making me as drowsy as hell.

Wish that would translate into letting me sleep, but it doesn’t.

Some nice scars underneath all those plasters, I’m sure.

Back to normal in a couple of days I’m sure. :-D

WIPs that can’t be shown….

Filed under: Knitting — sweensie @ 5:20 pm

I HAVE been doing some knitting, just can’t really show much of it at the moment.
Hmm okay, here’s a sneak peak at some of it.
This is something I’m doing, for a little someone, in green. Think I have shown this to you before now anyway (vague recollections of crocs).
This is 2/3 done I reckon now.
dsc07833.JPG

This is something that is finished, for a little someone, and waiting for something else to join it

spec.gif

This is something that I was itching to cast on for (yes, got my knitting mojo back now), but forced myself not to until I got the second little something finished, as I knew I’d get caught up with knitting this, and I was right.

dsc07830.JPG
I can show you something though.
Do you see these?
dsc07820.JPG
These belong to my boy, and for those of you out there who don’t know what they are, they are Meath jerseys, and Meath jerseys are worn by Meath GAA supporters, when they go to the matches. My boy was at one of the matches last weekend,(they won) and they are playing again this weekend, but he won’t be going to it this time around.
The GAA is something that is hugely followed in this country, more so than soccer is, I would say, and it is a really exciting game, much more skillful than soccer is..in my opinion!
ANYway, I got some yarn in the correct colours, and last night I whipped this up for him:
dsc07823.JPG
Pencil beside it for scale.
He likes it, actually maybe a lot…
This will go up in the rear view mirror of the car.
He has warned me that there may be orders coming in…

Unusual Ramblings

dsc07774.JPG

Im sorry to hear that there are such begrudgers out there.  Do people not read things before they steam ahead and start giving out? Its no mean feat checking out a new site (still in beta) for bugs and errors and still trying to improve, and add things to it.

Some people have too much time on their hands.  How can they seriously expect an invite after that?

Anyway, I’m having a lot of fun on the site.  Its so easy to get sucked into it.  I’ve only uploaded a small fraction of my stash to it….and when I say a small fraction, we are probably talking in the region of  1/42 or something (I was going to type 0.00003 there first, then copped on that it was a decimal and not a fraction. Duh!).

I’ve re-discovered a lot of patterns that I had already bookmarked, probably many times, in the past, and am starting to get my knitting mojo back. For example, check this site out, and then check out the free pattern:  Cutest booties ever EVER

Not to mention her really cute baby, wearing really cute handknitted items!!

Okay.  I finished half of something yesterday and sewed it up today, and cast on for the other half….but I can’t post anything about it yet. Damn and blast.  I’ll give you a hint.  Its quite cute….

Whats that all got to do with the picture above?

dsc07771.JPG

Nothing.  Cheers!!

A little something for Cheryl

Filed under: Friends, General Ramblings — sweensie @ 6:16 pm

Just in case Cheryl is going through withdrawal symptoms, that we won’t talk about, I thought that perhaps I could do a little bit of substitution for you, Cheryl! (Overcoming my hatred of feet, even mine….)

dsc07767.JPG

So, I thought that perhaps my nailvarnish kind-of matched the colour of my feet, just a little bit.

But perhaps the crocs instead, match my knitting??

dsc07691.JPG

Tee Hee!!

The knitting is actually a little brighter coloured than this.

So, after that strange post, I leave you with a picture from Clare. Oh to be there at the moment……

Oopos, I did it again

Filed under: Knitting — sweensie @ 6:22 pm

dsc07666.JPG

I bought more yarn.

I have so much yarn that I still haven’t dared to start photographing it yet for Ravelry, for fear that there would need to be a search and rescue team sent out for me to try and pull me out of the stash.

Yet, I braved this possibility and idea, and made my way to This is Knit on Saturday, as I needed certain yarn for certain projects that I can’t go into here at the moment.

So thats all the information I can give you here and now.  You may see a little peek of the projects as I’m doing them.

I’ve cast on for one already.  And frogged, and cast on again….and frogged, and cast on again.  I really need to do gadge swatchs first!!!

Guess who I bumped into at the shop?  Apart from Lisa and Jacqui of course!

Aileen. Great to see her, and totally unexpected! She had bought some great books, books by the one and only EZ of course. She was heading back to Galway on Sunday though, probably knit a full pair of socks on the way I would imagine ;-)

yummy cakes

dsc07661.JPG

There were a few birthdays and things going on in work, people leaving, all that jazz, so we decided to have a little tea party on Friday last.

I made the maple and pecan muffins from Rachel Allen Food at Home book.  Great book. Mine has a different cover to it.

I substituted walnuts for the pecans, purely because the shop was out of pecans, and I made buns sized muffins as I dont have a muffin baking tray.

dsc07662.JPG

Yummy yummy.  Only have a few left, in the freezer, as back up for an emergency.

Which can happen you know.

A good day for sewing

Filed under: Friends, Inspiration, Sewing — sweensie @ 9:04 pm

Isobel has given a good account of yesterday.

Suffice to say, this –>

 dsc07665.JPG

was what I bought in order to turn some of it into something resembling a bag.

I should really have gone for some sturdier material.  Still,

there was a bit if this–>

dsc07670.JPG

Kate using my Mums sewing machine after a little mishap with her own….and guess what?  It Works!!!

dsc07673.JPG

Concentration as the inner and outer lining was being pieced together by Isobel

some yummy lemon drizzle cake from (blogless) Kate,  for the moment….the blogless state that is ;-)  hint hint

some yummy fruit and nut flapjack type bars from Isobel, who we know does have a blog,

iced buns from me

tea

pomegranate juice

…………..

and eventually, we had results!!!

dsc07676.JPG

Brightly coloured bag by Kate, really cool, dark lining

Dark coloured bag by Isobel, also cool, the sturdiest of the three, blue and white lining

Mine is the tweedy one with the blue and green lining. Quite floppy but works when there is actually stuff in it. (I used it for work today and definately, it works!)

dsc07678.JPG

A lovely day spent with 2 friends, getting to know a pattern that we agreed on before we met up (Everyday Tote from Simple Sewing by Lotta Jansdotter), we thought it would be good to do a project together, and a great chill out destress day for all of us.

Here’s my bag at work in work today. It works!

dsc07682.JPG

Want to see some inside detail?

dsc07683.JPG Original patterned inside pocket which holds approximately one mobile phone

dsc07684.JPG Additional pocket, inspired by Isobel thinking about putting an extra pocket in her bag. I stole her idea too.

I don’t think she minds too much…

But, whats this?

dsc07689.JPG

I think that my Other Half must have been inspired by Isobel’s left over yummy fruit and nut bars, and made this, this evening.  It smells yummy!!

………..Just tried some.  Warm still, sticky, crunchy, chewy………

Definately yummy.

:-D
