Working on Knitting

Filed under: Knitting — sweensie @ 11:00 pm

I’m in a bit of a blogging slump at the moment, and not only that, but a knitting one also.
I haven’t even got startitis!! Very unusual for me.
So to try and combat that, I forced myself to cast on for :

* baby bib o’love from mason dixon knitting.

dsc07658.JPG
Its a project that I’ve been wanting to cast on for, for ages. It still hasn’t gotten me over this slump, but its a start.
So, I have been doing a little more concentrating on WIP’s instead of my usual, oh what will I cast on for now, oh, I really want to do that, and that, and that…and other projects get put aside.
I’ve noticed a lot of this in the blog world recently, I think its due to the summer time, more than anything, bright evenings, who wants to be knitting!
I’ve also been a little bit busy with catching up on my bloglines, which are just never ending at the moment, still havent caught up since I got back from Italy, and it keeps on growing!
The other thing thats keeping me a little bit busy is Ravelry.  I’m getting there slowly with adding projects that I’m working on, and things I’ve finished, but I’m finding that I’m having to go back and look up pattern info in order to get them in, and even though I have a little notebook that I thought I had kept lots of info in about the project, eh, no, not as much info as obviously I should have!
I started photographing my stash for it, but the photos weren’t working out very well, so I need to go back to that again sometime soon. It takes time! A LOT of it.
So, here we are with my current WIP’s.
first up is

*Bridie, from Anna Bell

dsc07649.JPG
Oh I know, Bridie, I have been knitting this forever.
But I’ve been knitting a bit of it, putting it away to do something else, then doing another little bit of it etc etc.
I couldn’t even think about knitting her when it was hot here, when was it, about 10 years ago, it seems like (we’ve had almost solid rain for the past 2 weeks)but since then, I decided to make a concerted effort on making progress on her.
So I have probably knit about half the back piece in the past 2 weeks, off and on. I’m almost at the shoulder bit, probably about another inch and a half.
This is the biggest bit of it, phew, the front pieces and arms won’t take as long.
Second up is my sock.
*Elfine’s socks by Anna Bell

(hmm, didn’t think that I’d have two projects on the go from the same designer!)

dsc07659.JPG
Lorna’s Laces, first time knitting with them, even though I’ve had these in my stash forever.
using 2.5mm dpn’s, after changing from using 2.25 bamboo circular needles that just weren’t getting on with the yarn.
Gadge hasn’t seemed to change much actually.
I haven’t done much on these since I got back from Italy, not sure why!

*Trellis Wrap/Scarf from Interweave Knits, ?Fall 2006

dsc05573.JPG
Using Cotton/linen blend from Avoca Handweavers.  Loving the yarn.  It seems quite rough on the cone, and when its wound into a cake, but once its knit, oh so soft!

dsc07534.JPG
Slowly slowly working on this. It requires a leeetle bit of concentration, so no distractions needed.  I’m doing a couple of rows here and there.
*Pot Holder- no picture at the moment, sorry.
Using some unknown brand cotton I got in a charity shop, and a stitch pattern from a stitch pattern book that I havent got to hand at the moment (too lazy to get off the couch and go and look for it!) and its a nice knit.  I’ll back this with some fabric and it will join a little pile of them that I’m working on, ready to go into my Etsy shop when I have a few done.
I’m enjoying doing these potholders.  Its giving me a chance to try out some different stitches and seeing what I like and don’t like.

*Baby Booties

dsc07660.JPG
Using some cotton from Sorrento. Didnt check the gadge on these and they are a little larger than usual ones I do, but it doesn’t really matter as they will fit a baby anyway as they grow!
Little bit of a standstill as I’ve mislaid the pattern and am at the decrease area on the foot sole and can’t remember the decreases.  Not that they are hard. Just haven’t had the motivation to do it.  must print out another copy of the pattern and get to it!
I changed this a little and did a little picot edge on the top, thinking it would be nice for a little girl.

*Baby Bolero

dsc07653.JPG
Yes, another one.  This one is aimed at a little girl baby.
I like these bolero’s, the only thing I dont like is the seaming. Isobel suggested that I do a 3 needle bind off at the top with the front and the back.  Good suggestion.  I’m going to try it. Still have the sleeves to sew in though, and then the sleeves themselves.  I may just use sellotape…..
There you go.  Thats it.  I think.
Oh…forgot the perhaps frog pond project
*Honeymoon Cami

dsc05885.JPG
(Not quite an up to date photo)

Using Tivoli Cotton/Linen.  Have knit up to the bust area, and think that the yarn just won’t be flattering on me.  My belly is protesting.
I’ll have to put it on some waste yarn and try it on..otherwise, to the frog pond it goes….ribbit ribbit

Graffiti

Filed under: General Ramblings — sweensie @ 7:10 pm

Now, isn’t this a huge Aloe Vera plant?  Massive.  I should have had M stand by it to show you how big it was.

I saw it in Sorrento, near the  harbour.

Can you see something else with it though?  Notice anything unusual

dsc06958.JPG

Yup.  There is graffiti on it.  Carved into numerous arms of the plant.

See –>

There was a lot of graffiti in Italy, lots more than I expected, but I certainly was taken aback by this!!

Filed under: Knitting — sweensie @ 9:24 pm

 I like this little package.

Its off to a much loved friend, and her new baby.

Angela, don’t read any further if you havent received my package!!!!!!

Inside are these items–>

dsc07521.JPG

Isobel and I seemed to have been knitting the same thing at the same time!! :-D

I liked this knit, fairly quick, easy, the yarn was so much smoother and softer than it seemed in the ball.  In fact, I have cast on for another one in a different colourway.

Yarn used: Tivoli Cruise DK

Needle Size: 5.5mm

Pattern: One Skein Baby Bolero

More about the hat next post…

Meanwhile, Ronnie is wondering if this is his good side?? Hmmm???

A Young One

Filed under: General Ramblings, Inspiration, Sewing — sweensie @ 5:59 pm

Before I went on holiday, the day before, I had a mad fit of having to make some hair-kerchiefs, or hair scarves to take with me.

I just HAD to.  you know what its like when you just HAVE to do these things.  I wouldn’t have had a good holiday if I didn’t make these.

dsc06234.JPGdsc06238.JPG

I don’t know why, cos these things just don’t suit me.

Still they were made, and I brought them with me, and wore them on more than 3 occasions, at least.

I had one in my bag at all times, and when we went to Pompeii, it proved very valuable, as it was a really windy day, and my hair was getting tossed every direction. I whipped it out and put it on.

So, though I hate to show myself on my blog, the occasion definitely justifies it.

Guess who we met when we were in Pompeii?

dsc07259.JPG

Do you recognise him?

Its Nigel Planer, who starred in The Young Ones back in the 80’s.

All you Irish and UK readers, of a (ahem) certain age, will definitely remember him as the long haired Neil in the comedy.

I loved it and saw all the episodes. Nigel was very nice, and only too glad to pose for a photo with us.

There is one of Micheal also with him, but I’m not showing!!

This was actually one of the highlights of our trip!! Apart from the obvious of course. We spent the rest of the day saying….

“Guess what…?”

“What?”

“I met Nigel Planer!!!!!”

:-D

Spinning? Wool winding?

Filed under: Spinning — sweensie @ 10:02 pm

dsc06831.JPG

I got all excited when I saw this in the doorway of a shop in Rome and realised that it was some sort of contraption for possibly spinning, or at least winding of wool.
Only to realise that it was a carpet shop.

How strange was that!!

Ravelry

Filed under: General Ramblings, Inspiration — sweensie @ 5:18 pm

Wheeeeeeee!!!!

I just got my invitation to join Ravelry!!!!

Damn and blast it anyway, we are heading out the door in half an hour to go to the west of Ireland.  Maybe I can persuade Micheal to leave me behind for the weekend…….

And now I have to go and try and upload loads of pictures into flickr in order to use them…….

Sunday evening, you know what I’ll be doing ;-)

Wonderful knitting

These were in the window of a clothes shop in Sorrento.  You would have thought that they would sell yarn too but it wasn’t to be.
It looks like a lot of these are crocheted, but some are also knitted.  The purple hat with the green top is going for €48 can you believe!!

dsc06974.JPG
So much detail in these, I was impressed indeed (bad second photo with the glare off the window).

dsc06973.JPG
I like the gecco best of all.
Here’s a real one that came visiting our balcony
